Is duckweed useful for the aquarium?

if you want to subdue lighting or suck up some excess nutrients. a lot people reccomend frogbit or salvinia over duckweed though, they're easier to scoop out if you ever want to get rid of it and it looks better all around.

Joe, get the salvinia....better looking, more effective with nutrients and spreads like wild-fire.

Thanks...... :)

i tried this about a week ago, it turned my tank into a damn washing machine swirling everywhere, i guess my filter was too powerful. i have a 55gallon and i have an ac500 on it. fo you guys that do have duckweed how do you make it stay on the surface?

Good point. I remember adjusting the nozzle on one of my tanks and sure enough, duckweek was all over the place. Keep the nozzle below water line and it will help - once the duckweed gets thick enough they will be pushed to one side of the surface and remain there. Atleast it works in my tanks.
