Hello

Can i get some duckweed out of my pond and put it in my tank?

thnx flag
yes of course you can, but I would rinse it thoroughly first before putting possible outdoor contaminants in your tank. When my water lettuce goets too plentiful, I move it out to my water feature.

Be prepared to scoop out duckweed on a regular basis. It has a tendancy to sneak up on you. Do you have any other plants in the tank? If you do, keep in mind that duckweed is going to cast a shadow on those plants and hinder growth.

EXACTLY!

I just got over a huge infestation of duckweed. I thought that it wouldn't be too bad at first, but that stuff is nearly impossible to eradicate.

If you just want to use it as a nutrient export device and you don't have any other plants in the aquarium then it can be very useful. Otherwise it's an abolute pain.

I went away for a week on vacation and there must have been a duckweed plant or two in my aquarium. When I got back my planted tank was nearly covered in the stuff. Arg...

In a low light tank that gets no added ferts it should be easy to control. Added to a high light tank with added ferts and you get out of control duckweed. Some people still like it. I don't add ferts but have moderately high light and I scoop a bit out at each water change.

I had duckweed in my 20G low/no maintanence tank with some plants, guppies and snails with 0.75WPG virtually no ferts. The stuff spread so fast if I neglected it for much more than a week it would completely cover the surface and block almost all light. It woudl pack in there so tight the stuff would be overlapping. I resorted to some serious removal several times and nothing worked. Then for whatever reason the stuff just started vanishing a few weeks ago after over a year long battle  .
