I have been setting up my 5 gal to house my extra Imbellis's if they don't fit in my 10 gal tank with the other fish. I seeded it with some gravel and gunk from another filter. It is starting to finish up the cycle now.
BUT...
My comets had a mating frenzy in their 75 gal tank and a couple got beat up from a couple ornaments. The whole tank was rearranged. I ended up having to take out the biggest ornament because, considering how hard and rough it is and how beat up my fish are, I figured it to be too dangerous for my "active" fish. I left it out for about a day and then I thought (stupid me) "Gee, I can use that ornament for seeding too."
And, with that "brilliant" idea, I put it in the 5 gal. tank. Doing my daily routine, testing the tank one of those days I noticed some eggs on the ornament. Oops. I figured that being dry for a day and with the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates so high, they probably wouldn't hatch. Here it is a week later, and I noticed 3 Comet fry in the tank.
(I forgot how strong my Comets are.) Now that I know that there are living creatures in the tank, I am obligated to support those lives. But, although the tank is now done cycling, the nitrates are sky high and if I do the waterchange I may suck up and kill some fry. Also, I don't have any more room for Comets. I already have a 75 gal that is overstocked with 9 Comets! The pet stores won't take them. :thud:
I guess all I can do, and what I will do, is change the water, stick a couple plants in there, and see what happens.
I ask for anyone who reads this to pray for me to somehow end up with a good-sized house where I can nicely fit a 200 gal. tank that also must fall into my lap (with all its gadgets) because I wouldn't be able to buy one or to set up that size tank where I currently live.
Or, I would appreciate any other ideas that doesn't involve guilty feelings... and prayers as well.
