Can someone remind me, are we supposed to do water changes in a tank being cycled?

I would wait until it has finished cycling, when i started mine i only did a 5-10% change after 2 month.....and then after adding fish a 20-25% every month.

theres about 10 kilos of live rock with about a dozen small crabs and one larger crab. There are lots of life forms on the rock (inluding some coral I just discovered, small ones and an anemone or two). About 7 snails, and one died the other day. Which is why I'm asking. Should I do water changes just for the sake of those guys? Or are they meant to be casualties of war?

I did a water change yesterday and I added a protein skimmer the day before that. When I cleaned out the collection cup yesterday I totally understood and appreciated why you need the skimmer. That stuff was feral. Yukk..
