heres a crude paintshop of the durso standpipe that i tried. i realize now that the 1" pipe on the bottom should be 1 1/4 and i needed to reduce it right before the bulkhead down to 1" since my bulkhead is 1". also i used a 1" L b/c i have very little room in my HOB overflow and the 1" fits inside 1 1/4" fairly nicely. i saw somewhere where someone cut the T and L to fit them right next to each other, perhaps i'll try that and use a 1 1/4" L and see if that works.
When I had my durso set up, I didn't have a ball valve on top like that, I just had a small hole with a piece of airline tubing to let air in. It was pretty quiet.
yes i know they make 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 1" T's but the home depot by me sucks and they dont have any. im gonna try the durso again and see what happens. any other suggestions?
Two things stand out to me. The first has been mentioned which is you should be using 1 1/4" pipe for everything down to the reducer for the bulk head. This includes the elbow and T. Second...and the most important...drop the ball valve or leave it open and add on. Use a straight pipe on the top and simple solid 1 1/4" cap. DO NOT GLUE IT ON.
If you don't already have it, invest in a cheap set of drill bits. Get a set that starts with real small bits and works it way up the scale. The one I got was Black and Decker branded.
If you build a new stand pipe, assemble as you have it drawn using all 1 1/4" pipe and without the ball valve. If you modify yours, either cut the ball valve off or leave it wide open and add on. Using the smallest bit in the set, drill a hole in the cap. Put the cap on the stand pipe and see what happens. Your probably going to get that fun "flushing" when you start...but no big deal. Too much noise or not enough flow? Remove the cap and use the next biggest size bit to enlarge the hole and test again. Repeat this process until you get as close as you can to where you want to be. Once you have it where you want use some silicone to "glue" the cap on. This way if you modify something...such as a pump...and need to redo things it's no big deal.
Also...buy extra caps! If you over shoot with too big of hole you simply replace that cap with a new one.
Lastly...why no ball valve? The valve does not allow you to adjust the amount of air correctly. I tried the same sort of thing with a 3/8" valve for tubing and could not make it work.
