Are albinos more rare then regular bristlenose?
I don't know much about bristlenoses. I picked up a 3/4" dwarf albinos bristlenose for $4. Is that a good price? I needed to get a placo that dosen't get so large so I would not have such a poop machine in my bow front.

I think I read somewhere that they gorw to 5"-6".
When my albino gets big enough will he eat my Dempsey's fry at night when the parents are sleeping?
My Dempsey are not to agressive. I am trying to breed my Electric blue Dempsey with a blue jeaned dempsey to raise Electric Blue Dempseys. In general Electric Blue Dempseys are less agressive then normal Dempseys so I am not worried about them hurting the placo between spawns. The placo should be fine during spawns if he stays on his side of the tank. I need something to controle the algi between water changes.

They are a good choice for an algae eater. $4 is a fine price. Albinos are slightly rarer but becoming much more common in the fish trade.

Don't forget that algae is a suppliment to a diet and they should be fed regularly as well. Try dropping in slices of blanched zuchinni or cucumber (or weight it down with a rock). The pleco will eventually figure those out as food and love to eat them. Also sinkign algae tabs are a good idea. These fish need to eat a lot of food to stay healthy, tank algae just won't be enough. And frankly if they aren't a poop machine they aren't eating enough.

Even with the albino bristlenose you need to have a source of driftwood in the tank, too. I wouldn't think that they would touch fry. Mine aren't even interested in the frozen bloodworms or shrimp that I feed my other fish. I believe I bought my bristlenose back in November for 3 x the price of yours by the way... :) They were the same size as yours. As it turns out I have a male and a female, the male is still growing his spectacular bristles and he is around 4 1/2 inches big now, the female is a little over 2 inches. They are showing an interest in spawning but I don't think have reached their sexual maturity yet. Fascinating fish! I am just in awe of the body and facial changes of the male. He's just gorgeous!
Take care,
Mary.

Thanks for the information you guys. I am looking forward to watching him grow. You guy are a big help.
Oh, I have blanched zuchinni in the tank now. He isn't intrested in it yet. How long do I keep it in before I replace it?
