So I think I'm going to trade in my cherry barbs for some small corydoras like pygmy or hasbrosus to make my tank microfish-only. I read that these guys are bottom dwellers and eat flakes. Do they eat only flakes fallen on the floor or do they come up and eat? Also, do they eat live worms at all?

One thing I'm concerned about is that, if they do eat live worms, my dario darios will have to compete with the corydora for food. The dario darios don't seem to eat that much to begin with, and the catfish seems like they're eating all the time like otos. Any comments?

They will eat flakes off the bottom for sure, they might eat from the surface, I've seen full-size cories eating off the surface. They will probably eat worms, although I don't think they will directly steal from the darios, probably just go after the ones it misses.

Mine hog algae wafers and root around the substrate for left over food from up top. They enjoy worms too. If Otos are your furniture janitors then those cats will be the floor cleaning staff.

habrosus and pygmaeus are so small that foods like cyclops, white worms, etc are better than brine shrimp or blood worms which are a bit large. They will readily eat bottom feeder pellets as well as flake. They will mainly eat off the bottom but will also flip upside down to eat things at the surface.

Oh man, I just came back from the LFS, but I didn't get any of these because they were pretty expensive, about 6 or 7 dollars depending on the kind. I got more ember tetras and celestial danios instead.

They are omnivorous fish, quite opportunist. They are very keen on worms, although they do fine on flake food. Worth wetting some in advance so that it gets to the bottom.

Corydoras - last syllable rhymes with "***"*. No such thing as a 'Corydora'. Personal peeve.

*Oh for goodness sake! The other word for a donkey which this naughty word filter thinks is naughty.
