Dwarf Gourami Aggression

Well, finally my mom who knows the owner of the pet shop was able to contact her directly, and she agreed to take two back, so now it's just the one gourami. He definitely seems happier, and the betta's behavior has changed completely since I moved him to his own, smaller tank. If anyone has suggestions on fish I could put in with the one gourami (other than female gourami, I'm already aware of that) in the future, that would be cool. Thanks for everyone's help. :)

That's great to hear! What kind of fish do you like? You could put one small school of tetras that don't fin nip. You could get a few small cory cats. I am drawing a blank right now, but I am sure if you give us some ideas of what you want we could tell you what would work.

I really like the...pretty ones. Just through browsing around pet shops, I can say I like Rosy barbs, cherry barbs, and zebra danios. I sort of like tetras, but I've had a lot of friends tell me that theirs are always jumping out of the tank. I don't know if that's just the neons (which is what most of these people have) or all tetras.
I also love rainbow fish, but I've heard that they get too big for my tank. I'm in the market for a bigger one, though, if I can find it cheap. I like rainbow sharks, but then I heard that they get big, but my boyfriend who's an avid fisherman says that wild fish adapt to the size of their environment, and the girl at the store swears that she had them living in her 10g for years, but I've also heard that the sharks get mean. I'm running into this problem a lot; different sources saying completely different things about fish, and I don't know which to trust. For example, some website told me that dwarf gouramis are completely peaceful and should be kept in groups. If anyone can recommend a site that has accurate profiles of fish, that would be cool.

I think dwarf gouramis get along with any fish that does not have long finnage. No big fins. My gourami gets along with everyone in my tank. He acts like the other fishs doesn't even exist.

You can look up fish on here. Look under Ac quick likns, species profiles. they are pretty good. I would say rosy barbs get pretty big, you could only do a couple, but they like bigger groups. Cherry barbs would be okay, but only get 2-3. they aren't really a schooling species. They will get together, but they like to hang out on their own and will fight if there are too many. Zebra danios would be cool, but again, i think a 10 gallon is a bit small. they are a schooling species, and are fast swimmers which hang out near the top. I would think they would need a bigger tank to really be happy. I don't really think Tetras as a species tend to jump out of tanks. If you have it covered, you shouldnt worry. As far as the shark, I would say a minimum of 30 gallons, although 55 and up would be ideal. They are very territorial once they grow up and they do get very large. I had 2 in a tank once, not knowing this, many years ago. They basically tried killing eachother. One had almost no scales left. i was able to nurse him back to health and gave him to someone else who had a nice sized tank.

As far as trusting one site, i never do. I tend to look at many sites and see what they say. Of course this site is a great resource as well. Everyone does have their own opinions, but you just have to hear the "facts" and make the best decision you can.

I would say a few cherry barbs would be cool. They are one of my favs. Just make sure you have the tank planted (live or fake) and some other hiding spots for them. Look above, his 20 gallon is ideal.

I have to say, if you really have all the fish you claim to have and aren't a :troll: , your tank is tremendously overstocked. In addition, many of the fish you keep together shouldn't be together regardless of the size of the tank.
