Dwarf Gourami Breeding Question

Be sure to put loads of nesting materials in there for the male, best is stem plants, lots of them. Their nest is one of the most spectacular that I have seen from Gouramis, basically a big bird nest floating upside down, if you know what I mean.

OK so now the male has started being aggresive to the female and to the platy they share their home with. That's a bad sign right? Should I swap the male for another or buy more females? There is no sign of a bubble nest, but I have just made a DIY floating bubble catcher plant thingy that he could make one on.

Personally I would condition them separately. The female might not be ready when the male is.

:iagree:

Also, if I recall right, dwarf gouramis like to mix bits of fine-leaved plants into their bubble nests, so you might want to supply a strand or two of floating hornwort.

If you have only one female move her and the platy. Then treat like betta's they are close to the same family.if you want to just free breed them you need at lest 3 females for each male

And one more thing if you don't have enough females to males. The males will gut one another over the females and nest space

Float hornwort the male will build a nest, spend much his time at the top. When he is building a nest start to feed the female frozern brine shirp, 4 times daily.Give the female a hiding cave,Pvc pipe or take the bottom out of a red clay pot..When they spawn only the male-female in tank.Pull ther female after the spawn.Leave the light on 24 hours, you want algae at this point..Pull the male 2 days later.
