Can anybody tell me for sure how to sex Dwarf Gourami? I am particularly interested in the Flames. I've found several discriptions as to how to tell, but they all seem really vague. Is there any way you could show me pictures? I can't seem to find a pic online that is definately a female... Thank you all for your help.

The females are pale, just about white, and very unlikely to be found in pet stores. You'll probably have to order if you want them.

Honey gouramis > Dwarf gouramis

Dwarf gouramis from Asian fish farms are far weaker nowadays due to the fact they are fed with hormone laced foods to ensure their sexes are changed since males are more catchy and therefore likely to fetch more demand than females.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, are you saying that the color variants (like flame, or powder blue) are all males, and all female dwarf gourami look the same? If so, are they white, or more of a silver? I saw some at the LFS the other day that were almost completely silver, with very faint stripes... I thought they might be female... or that they might be stressed/sick. Thanks again for your help.

Here are a couple of pics of my females, the first two are the drab grey colors. The second pic is one of my very pretty blue female. Wish the pic was better, but she doesn't stay still for long.

Isn't the second picture of a male? Dwarf gourami are capable of changing their gender, even if you bought it as a female it might not still be one.
