dwarf gourami question

hey now,

I have had my dwarf gourami for five months now. for awhile now he sometimes will act very strangely. I see him approach the filter tube and he will get his left or right gill up to it and then BOOM....he snaps back really fast. Do you guys know what i mean? Its really weird. The water parameters are in check i just don't get it. His gills may look alittle red, I just dont know.

any help on this would be great.

just figured i would mention he is blowing bubble nests all the time...so that means he is happy right?

are you sure he isn't picking at something? how big of a tank? any tankmates? bubblenest is a sign he wants to breed. do you have any females? Kyle
