I have a 29g and i was looking into gouramis.
I already have 4 guppies [1m:3f]

I wanted to stock my tank like this and i was wondering if it would be ok for my gourami::

4 Guppies.
1 male dwarf gourami.
1 baby angelfish. [nickel size]
6-12 neon or cardinal tetras.
and maybe a bottom feeder or 2 of some kind.

I know that my guppies will be breeding a lot. >>;;
hopefully having the gourami and the angelfish will help keep the population under control without completely demolishing ALL of the fry.

Also, is having just 1 male gourami ok? or do i need at least 3?
because i know i don't have that room for them territoraly.
I'm pretty sure my LFS doesn't sell females.

Females are hard to find, but not impossible. I wouldn't recommend having 2 males in the same tank; they won't go at it a vigorously as bettas, but they will make life hard for one another. Don't get neons with an angelfish, as they will be eaten eventually. The angel may for for the guppies as well, though I haven't heard of them eating guppies.

Hm yeah that's why i might get cardinals instead. They get a bit more bigger than neons do.
I'm not going for 2 males. I know they can fight. You told me in the other thread :D
lol
so i was contemplating the 1 angel and 1 gourami idea above instead.

That stocking is fine, angels aren't overly aggressive when not breeding (as long as the fish aren't bite-sized).

k :)
thanks for the info.
will the gourami go after the cardinals?
i don't think it will but maybe?

No, a male Dwarf Gourami won't bother anything not another male dwarf gourami unless he has fry to protect.

Someone told me that the gourami will probably be agressive to my angelfish.
And to take the gourami out of my list. O:
They said it would have problems with fin nipping and aggression.
Can i have a second opinion on this?

I think he meant the angel will be aggressive... and it's possible, but I've not noticed angels to be overly aggressive to anything unless they're in breeding mode, maybe he's just gotten some pretty aggressive angels. Tank size may help too, 29 is a bit small for an angel and the crowding might make it more aggressive- but theres no way to tell until he grows up.

>: no we were posting back and forth. He meant the male dwarf gourami.

i know it's pretty much a hit or miss on the angelfish. So i'm gonna go to my LFS and pick one out when i finally decide to get it [if i do] later and see if they can hold the one i pick for about a week so i can come back and watch it to see it's behavior.

That's strange... I've never heard of DGs being aggressive towards other fish outside of breeding... maybe his DG had a bubblenest it was protecting?
