I thought Gourami's were top swimmers, but Petsmart has them listed as bottom. I was going to get one for the top areas of my tank, but now I'm thinking more along the lines of a Pearl Gourami that might spend more time up there. I have plenty of bottom and mid dwellers.

Yeah, they are all over the place. Alot of "top dwellers" spend time all over the tank. I wouldn't stock based on that description. If you tell us what you have in your tank and the size of the tank, whether its planted, etc. I am sure people would be happy to give you some stocking suggestions.

I have Rainbows, that may intimidate the shy fish.
Perhaps, I should put gourami's in with the slower moving Rasboras and tetras in the other tank.

My dwarf gourami spends about 80% of his time at very bottom of the tank looking for food and sliding around under my crypt leaves. About 20% is spent hovering under the floating hornwort at the top. Midlevel only happens if he's in transit. I'd say that's the norm for heavily planted tanks, but I've talked to folks with similar set-ups where the percentages are reversed--their gourami spends most of its time uptop and only goes down occasionally, or spends 80% of its time swimming around mid-tank instead.

Mine gues everywhere too...sometimes if he's bored, he swims up and down parallel to the filter intake. Looks like he's crazy or something... At first he was afraid of me and now he knows i'm the food source and comes up to me.

They swim all over. Top, middle and bottom. Active and curious, they are always checking out their home.

i have four honey dwarfs... they are scattered all over the tank, i think they've established their own mini-territories... one is at the top, two somewhere near the middle, and one at the bottom, they swim together sometimes until someone starts throwing tantrums
