I have a 46 gallon tank, and I wanted to get dwarf gouramis. The questions is, how many? And how many males/females? I've tried doing research on what is most compatible but just when I think I know, someone else pops up and says that its a bad idea and aaahsshhgkdfdkfj im so confused!:help:

Wellllllllll ^^; I have two senegal bichirs...one is 4 inches long and the other is 2 1/2 inches. The tank was set up 2 months ago and I added the bichirs about ....3 (?) weeks ago. Can you tell I'm a little new to fish?

Are Bichirs compatiable with dwarf gouramis???

Yes depending on the species and if they will fit the bichir's mouth. It's the Senegals that are often the safest to mix with several fish provided they are not too small to fit their mouths.

At any rate, any attempts to find a female dwarf gourami is pointless. There is not many females available nowadays, thanks to Asian fish farms for feeding them with foods laced with sex hormones to change their sexes to males completely. This alone has rendered several gouramis very vulnerable to diseases.

How about a school of silver dollars?

This online fish thingy claims they have female gouramis....I'm always a little nervous at shipping fish though

When I finally did find a female for my male he turned from a friendly community fish to a brute who tortured her to death (I didn't realize fish are like 'birds on a wire' at the time) and then turned on his tank mates with whom he had just recently been pals with. I gave him to a fish store. Apparently this is not uncommon. Personally, I would only get one male and leave it at that. Some folks get lucky mixing males but most don't. Adding females doesn't usually help either. Just be prepared to take someone back to the fish store if things don't workout. Good luck. They are fun fish when happy!

HEY! I know! A piranha! It's a match made in heaven! jk

I looked up the silver dollars and it says they get about 6 inches so I might just get a few schools of the bigger tetras (congos etc.)

Could I get a few Julii cories?
