hi, i am interested in setting up a planted tank to house 6 or 7 dwarf puffer fish, and i also want to plant the tank. whats a good way for me to go about doing that? i have never had live plants in a tank. im gonna either be working with a 20 gallon hexagonal tank or a 35 gallon rectangle tank if i get rid of those fish. waht do you think guys???

the problem i would see with using the hex tank would be finding lighting that would fit over it. what ever you go for it would probably be smart to start out with low light set up, so aim for around 2 to 1.5 watts per gallon.

The stock hood that comes with your tank will likely have minimal lighting, probably less than one watt per gallon. You could still do some low light plants like java fern, java moss, anubias. These plants can be tied to driftwood with thread or small rubber bands and should hold their own with stock lighting.
You could also try rooted plants like crypts. www.plantgeek.net has a plant guide that displays the most common plants by lighting requirements and other factors.

And you can always start with fake plants. The DPs won't mind.

I would be hesitant of 6-7 dps in a 20 gallon. They are territorial and can get mean when they get older. If you can, try to stick to the 4-5 gallons per fish rule. And plant the tank heavily.
