So i have realized that I need only a certain kind of fish for my Red Tail Shark. It seems that dwarf puffers fall under the catagory though. Any thoughts?

I just love how puffers look and move and the fact that they have enormous personalities...too bad

buddy of mine has a single dwarf puffer in his community 45 with no problems as of yet anyway, been a couple months now.

I dont see a huge problem with it, I have dwarf puffers with a very small CAE and they never pay any attention to him. They are also only in a standard 10 gallon, so in my experience they arent "community" fish but some species are compatible with them. You could also try a true freshwater puffer, colemesus ascellus (spelling?) which is the mildest of all the puffers.

DP's are compatible with otos and sometimes shrimp. by fish, i mean actual swimming body species. DP's are known to harass and nip the fins of other fish

agreed, they do get a little pissy with eachother when they arent kept well fed

The main issue is, any fish large enough the puffer wount hurt it will out compete the puffer for food(or if big enough will kill the puffer). I have had great sucess with mine in a 10 gallon with killifish, ottos, and a temporary Apitogramma. I have to grow snails in another tank and keep them suplied to the 10 gal. I also have to overfeed bloodworms or brineshrimp and do a good gravel vac right after that every week to make sure it eats good enough. Also, My tank is heavily planted with a few good caves. It is possible to keep them like that, if you know what you are doing. That being said, I dont think it would be OK with a RTS. What is your tank size?

DP's are true freshwater puffers ;)
