I was just wondering if anyone ever had dwarf puffers in community tank successfully?

I was thinking of trying that myself by moving my betta to the 2g and putting my DP in my community tank.

Depending on what you have in your community tank, the dwarf could become a snack. If the other fish don't eat the dwarf it would probably nip the fins of all the fish in the tank. I'm sure someone out there has done it, but it's not recomended. Let fishcatch22 do it first I'm sure it will work out perfect in his imaginary tank.

what imaginary tank?

I've done it, and like was said It's not recomended. I currently have one in my guppy tank and it's been there over a year. It doesn't nip my guppys at all, but I do have a lot of cover in the tank. Also, feeding is an issue, since puffers are slow ambush preditors it is possible for them to starve. I actually overfeed the guppies a little bit and the puff will eat a bit of flake, but the main reason is to help keep the snail population up. He activly hunted snails from the get go, but some individuals will need to be "tought" that the snails are food. Unless you are dilligent and experienced, as well as have a tank you could move him to if things dont work out, I would asvise against it.

I've tried to introduce 2 dwarf puffers into one of my community tanks. Once the puffers had established themselves they chased my guppies around. Then I moved them into a tank with only 2 dwarf gouramis, 3 Ghost Shrimp and a couple of golden algae eaters, and they've been doing fine ever since.

The puffers are fearless. It would have to be a fish faaaar bigger than them and with a far bigger mouth. They don't take any crap from the gouramis and vice versa...

Ditto. I actually put the food right in front of them with a turkeybaster, otherwise they'll be out-competed for food, or you need to overfeed.

dwarf puffers are most definately not community fish. the males of the species dont even like each other very much as they are territorial. dwarf puffers are known to get along with otos or shrimp. with a 2 gallon tank, i wouldn't add anything more than a shrimp, even then its still not advisible. the puffer might or might not eat the shrimp.
