I was in Petsmart(not something that happens often!) and saw that they had DPs. I had been thinking about getting them eventually so I took a closer look. I was quite surprised to see that they were in with the Guppies everything I have read has said that they should only be in a species tank. When I asked the person who was in charge of the fish about it she gave me a funny look and said that that was not true at all. I assume that this is just another proof that the name of the store is pets-mart not pet-smart. Am I correct?

well its hard to say, i have noticed that if you transfer fairly young and small puffers into a tank with a little bit larger and quicker fish like in my case they will be alright...

2 Green spotted puffers 2"
1 common pleco 4"
1 bala shark 4"

But also realize that puffers definately have there own unique personality's, some are good tempered and some are very bad tempered. But mine have been alright for about 8 months with no problems. It seems to me though that because there the same size and the fact that guppy's are colorful there would be small chance of it working. Aproximately how many puffers and guppys were in the tank and about what size was the tank?

The tank looked like a ten gallon and there were probably 25 Guppies in there and only 6 DPs. The DPs weren't supposed to be in there they had gone through the small gap in the glass. The fish person didn't take them out because she saw no problem. I didn't see any injured Guppies and they didn't seem to bother each other, but I didn't look to hard. The DPs were only like half an inch long.

Other fish aren't really safe w/ DPs, of course, each fish has its own personality and there are exceptions.

Good tankmates: Otos, Ghost Shrimp.

That is what I thought, just wanted to make sure!

I have 2 of these guy's in a tank we got for baby fish, I diddnt put anthing in there with them as I was afraid they would hurt other fish, they are nice to look at though

Heh, just give them time . . . eventually they'll probably realize that guppies=food and the employees will come in one morning to a tank devoid of guppies and several fat, happy puffers :p:

Probably! I just wish I could be there to see their face!
