dwarf puffers

Well atleast I know now not to stick them in with other fish. Course mine's got it pretty easy in a 10 by itself and only a few others to keep him company...(aside from staring at a certain snail for hours and hours on end.) I'm glad the LFS actually has these little guys sorted right, they're a bit tougher to take care of than most of the other fish I have (dang picky eaters.) The only problem is that he doesn't like eatting any kind of flake food, but prefers to eat brine shrimp more than anything else and hates tublifelx worms...and no matter how often I feed him, he still looks really skinny. Any suggestions?

dp's very rarely accept prepared foods (flakes, pellets, etc.). they're also notoriously picky eaters and individuals so what one dp loves, the other hates.

my biggest problem is getting my dwarfs to learn what is food and what's not. they love live stuff because they wiggle. i'm trying to teach them to eat frozen food, but so far it's been a struggle. they just watch it drift to the bottom like "yeah right".

at dwarfpuffers.com, many members say that feeding 1 or 2 types of live food is enough nutritionally. Or at least their dp's have lived years and are healthy after eating only live worms or live snails. I tend to think that variety is best for the sake of completeness. I personally am going to continue training my babies to eat as many types of food as I can.

You are right about them being picky! and "what one dp loves, the other hates." Mine HATES brine shrimp and won't even eat his worms if they have even touched brine shrimp! He also refuses to eat flakes. (1st few days he wouldn't eat at all, b/c we didn't know he'd only eat bloodworms!)

you're lucky if yours ate after a few days. some dont' eat for like the first 2 weeks. even after that, some won't eat if their owner is in the room, so they have to put in food, run away, and come back later to see if their bellies are full. mine tried to eat the next day after getting them, but they just spit out frozen worms. so i had to rush out that day and buy them live food.

like i said, i'm going to keep trying to teach them that, yes, this is food. but i might not have any success and may have to resort to the live blackworms and live snails only. oh, well, it's better than starving to death, right?
