Hi everyone i just got two little DPs from my friend who can no longer take care of them. they are in my three gallon eclipse and seem to be doing okay. one is a little pale but he was like that when i got him so he might just be that way? anyways the real reason i need help is because i cannot get them to eat. my friend, mike, said they like bloodworms so i went and picked up some dehydrated ones but they won't eat them. i'm guessing they also won't take flakes so i don't know what to do. i can't do live or frozen foods at least not for right now. can anyone tell me what to do

What was the original setup like, the one that they were in before you got them?

And did the original owner always feed them bloodworms or was there another standard fish food he used? Also, how long has it been since you had them? They could just be stressed and are getting used to their new home. One of them might be pale because the other one is picking on it. Puffers are usually agressive towards their own species and should be housed alone or in a large species tank.

i've only had them for two days. mike tested the water gave them to me said the water was ok and good luck. he didn't say anything other than they like bloodworms. he did feed them a variety of stuff though. there only like three months old so they are little, i mean little guys

He didn't tell you about what they had been housed with or their previous tank size? They may just be stressed so I wouldn't worry right away. They might be getting used to your tank perameters. Drawf Puffers are pretty sensitive and need weekely tank changes. Make sure you don't place too much food in the tank. Especially if they arn't eating. How are their movements, are they swiming actively?

And I am not suprised they are tiny, draw puffers only grow to about an 1". Even though, it is recommended a tank size of at least 3-5G for just one.

You will need to pick up some frozen bloodworms at your LFS. Dethaw them in a little tank water, and feed about 3 bloodworms per fish. They are likely getting used to their environment. Tip: Don't take them out of water, like with a net. Always transfer them in a cup full of tank water. When they get scared, they can "puff" and if they puff air rather than water, they can't expell it and it will kill them. Also, watch for their bellies to get round after feeding. Any sunkenness and you probably have a fish with internal parasites and need to get treatment for them. See this site with tons of great info:

Good luck!

great news.
each one has eaten one dehydrated boodworm. they are bobbing up and down against the glass constantly. but my food stays at the surface but they attack it when it looks like its alive. is there anyway i can stay away from frozen food
