i just went out and got some new plants, an anubias nana, dwarf sag, corkscrew val that looks half dead but hope it'll revive, and some myriophyllum. i have them in a 10 gallon right now and the "dwarf" sag is maybe 3.5-4 inches tall which is almost half the height of the tank. I'd like to use this as my main foreground plant since it is supposed to spread well under moderate light, but I can't have it blocking the view of everything else in the tank b/c it is too tall. does anyone keep their dwarf sag trimmed back to ~2 inches? will this kill the plant, and even if it doesn't kill it would it even look good?
 
Dwarf sag is the "dwarf" version. It does grow to about 3-4 inch high. For small tanks baby tears, or clover is better.
 
I guess maybe when new shoots grow they might stay lower, the 5 inch leaves are the ones they had at the store. I have 20 watts over a 10 gallon, does this have any effect on how tall they will get? also, the corkscrew val I got is nearly dead (they were out of nice ones, I don't get a chance to go to this store very often and it was only like 1.50 so i figured what the heck). it is 3 plants connected by runners, the leaves are about 5 inches tall and very pale greenish-yellow and thin. one of the runners was brown but the other looked healthy green, and there are a decent number of short roots on the base of the crown. is there any chance this plant will come back in my tank, and how fast are they supposed to grow? I bought some excel while I was out there and I also give traces once a week.
