dyed fish pics

It looks like it has "googly eyes" pasted on, and had plastic surgury on its face.
And congrats to nid, that is quite possibly the most disturbing photo I have ever seen.

Why isn't PETA all over this? I mean they should be. Say no to dyed fish.

because fish aren't really animals. didn't you know that? they're just colorful toys that float around in water to be entertaining to the ignorant masses.

Lovely? Bloodparrot? Well to each his own I guess. IMO the creation and sale of blood parrots is almost as bad as the practice of dying them. Untill you've owned every cichlid that the process of evolution gave us, why do you need to "Make" new species? With all the beautifull cichlids out there, why own such an ugly, deformed, fish, that would not survive two generations in the wild.

Well mister, they are not ugly at all. All fish have different kind of look, you cant say whether one of them have the best look, they are all of different kind. For example if you like goldfish, would you like someone to say it is ugly?
Who cares about surviving in the wild? They are petfish and made to be raised at home, not in the wild. Why would anyone care if they survive in the wild or not, what? you are going to live in wild with them? If you expect anything to survive in the wild, then dont buy petfish. Just go dive in one of those lake and live with those fish. Whats so hard of accepting blood parrot in your life? They are going to harm you? or they are going to make your life so bad? Like there are no other hybrid animal, think! Even some dog are hybrid.

Its true that the fish shown in the pic above are aweful, and should never have been created. Im talking about real blood parrot, they are lovely, not the dyed one.

This is coming from someone who currently has two blood parrots in her 75 gallon tank. I want it to be know I did not purchase these fish, my daughter was given them for her birthday right after the tank was cycled. One was a baby about the size of a quarter the other is quite large. While they are nice enough fish I would not buy them. But they are here.

Secondly, I agree completely with what you are saying!! The smallest one was only about the size of a quarter when it was brought here and looked like a normal little fish. Now that it has grown its poor mouth is so deformed it can no longer close it or move it at all. I find that sad. The larger one has grown and now it seems as if his spine is curving as his body deforms even more and his mouth is also permanently fixed. I don't think his swim bladder works all that well either, he tends to lay on his side alot. I can't imagine that they will live long lives. You can tell looking at them that nature did not intend them. So my thought is that it's not just that they aren't a "pure" species that makes them a bad thing, it's that their bodies are deformed in numerous ways. Why "create" a fish that quite frankly can't be that healthy? I am not able to put into type what I am trying to say. I hope people understand what point I'm trying to make.

All that being said though, we do love our two blood parrots. I feel a certain sadness and great responsibility about them and I'm quite attached as well as my daughter. I am sure the time will come when their bodies won't support them anymore and we will do what must be done. :( OH and as to my friend who got them for my daughter...her heart was in the right place. She was at the store when I purchased my 75 gallon and we looked at fish together. I told her "Oh what pretty fish" when we saw the blood parrots and the perhaps I would like to have some but then we noticed they were rather expensive. I did lots of research while trying to plan the stock of that tank and found out just about this "created" fish and decided that no indeed, I would not purchase one. She didn't know this though and we never really talked about it so when my daughters birthday came up she had asked me a few days before about the tank and I told her I was slowly stocking, she got my daughter her own fish for the tank. She remember what I had said at the petstore and really thought she was doing the right thing.

ewwwww. Those fish haven't just been tortured, they've become unbearably tacky! Who would want something that flamboyantly ugly in a tank... if you're going to torture a fish and dye it (wrong anyways) at least use a decent color scheme...

The proliferation of man-made genetic defects via the blood parrot cichlid and certain fancy goldfishes like the telescope eye have lead to even more deformaties that negatively impact the fishes' ability for basic functions. Have you seen the "celestial" goldfish with its telescoping eyes pointing straight up, preventing it to see where its swimming? How about the "Love heart" blood parrot that is shaped like a heart because it's missing its tail section?

Aside from the health issues for the deformed fish, their proliferation also affects the availability of the natural breed. Flowerhorns are extremely popular these days, they are also very similar to the Midas. It has become increasingly difficult to find a pure Midas these days since the market has become flooded with Flowerhorn culls.

MKML- What you just described is the very thing I cull...Interesting, I cull those fish, others sell them for 20 bucks :) I am a very light culler and ONLY cull betta fry with the type of deformities you described...
