I have a Balloon Molly that seems to be dying. I have had her for about 5 months now and she was doing very well up until this point. She is having a hard time swimming. I have found her stuck to the filter intake and upside down on the bottom of the tank. If I move a plant around near her she will right herself and continue to swim around, but not well and bounces into things. My water parameters are good and it is an established tank. I have a feeling that it may be her time to go, but if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

can you test and post your water readings for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, also your water changing routine, also tank size and inhabitants.

would help people to try and work out what might be happening.

did you notice this all of a sudden (when), has anything changed recently in the tank, anything noticeable physically apart from her lack of control ?

At the moment, she is laying on the bottom of the tank respirating slowly. She is right-side up right now, but I think that is luck and not her doing.

Readings:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 5-10

I haven't changed anything drastically recently. I did a bit of dwarf hairgrass and a new crypt a few days ago, but nothing else.

Tank inhabitants are 1 x Dwarf Platy and 2 x Long-Finned Blue Danios. That is all.

I do a 20% change once every week. I did one today as well when I noticed she wasn't well.

water seems fine; you're gravel vaccing too I take it.

Was everything really ok with her til now - feeding etc ?

I'm thinking you can't really do a whole lot for her. Seems like she's not suffering though. Perhaps turn the tank lights off, let her rest and hopefully she may throw if off.

Yes, she usually eats like a pig. Today she didn't eat.

I do gravel vac when I change out the water.

Lights are out and she is on the bottom now, resting. Hopefully she does feel better. She is very cute and I'd hate to lose her.
