I have 6 corydoras virginiae and one of them seems to be dying. It lays on its side and occasionally twitches or swims erractically in circles. Its breathing seems normal. I've never seen this in any of my fish. Tank inhabitants include: 5 other corydoras virginiae, 5 discus, 10 neon tetras, 1 striped raphael catfish, 10 rosy reds. Its a 90 gallon tank. I've have not added any fish other than a few neon tetras a little over a week ago.

Tank parameters:
ph: 7.5
temp: 86F
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 15

I noticed it just today. Last night all of them were doing fine. Please help! :help:

any cory layin on it's side is in major trouble. I would move him out just in case he has something that can spread and this would make it easier to keep his water cleaner. sorry for your corycat, but I've a couple cories do this in the qt tank and none has ever made it. I don't mean to give you bad news but it doesn't look good. how long have you had these cories?

Not very long, about two weeks. I haven't really gotten too attached to them, but I still don't want him to die!

lilim10 - I hope you did some sort of quarantine with the cories before you exposed the rest of the fish to them. ng is correct, he's in major trouble and probably won't make it. Unfortunately the condition of LFS cories today is such that you're buying them in really shaky condition, qt, and expect to lose about 50%. Just get that one out of the tank and into a small qt tank by himself. I tried my darnest to save false julli corys in similar condition but to no avail. It didn't matter what med I put in with them, they died. See if you notice any tiny red streaks any place on his body. Keep an eye on the other 5, if you're lucky, they'll turn out to be fine.

aww poor guy, I hope he pulls through. I love cories and I've gotten a few from the store that were in that shape. They're probably hard to find also. How is he doing now? You might also put him in a shallow tank just in case he wants to surface for air.
