Help!!

I have a 90 gallon tank that I've had set up and cycled since August. I added fish a few at a time since then. I had in the tank 4 Angel Fish, 4 Female Dwarf Gouramis, 5 Jumbo Danios, and 6 Large Assorted Tetras and some algae eaters (not plecos). I've had all these fish since mid September, all from small babies, and they all get along great and swim happily

In my tank, I have one of those pretty bubble walls. I was having a problem with the bubble wall because on the surface of the water, it would look like when you pour a pop into a glass...all the "fizz" was splashing up. It would hit my canopy, which is at an angle, and slide down to the outer lip of the lid and drip onto my floor. I tried a lot of different ways to stop the dripping (weather stripping, etc.) but the water was just slowed, not stopped. So, I bought a sliding glass lid. The fizz hit the glass and just drips back in the water! No more mess!

But a few days later, one of my usually happy Dwarf Gouramis was dead. I tested the water and it was all fine, so I said my goodbyes. About a week went by and everything was normal, all the fish are happy and eating fine. Then I found another gourami dead. I tested again and did a water change. Everything is normal again. And then last night, I found another one dead. I find this very strange. She was happy and swimming normally hours before I found her. She ate and was just fine!

Now, I don't really know...but could all this have to do with the glass lid? It's been on for about 2 weeks now. I never had any fish loss before I put the lid on (except for one during the cycle process). I don't want the last one to have the same fate!!

Sandy :help: :hang:

Did you clean the glass lid with windex or some other cleaner?

are there any openings in the lid for air to move in and out? could be a problem with low oxygen, though your other fish would be showing signs like gasping at the top.

I only wiped the glass with a paper towel and water. There's cut outs in the back of the glass lid in the plastic part for 2 heaters, and my filter. Just in case, I've left the sliding glass lid open a little...but that's probably going to lead to the water coming out again

you can close it again. as long as some part of it allows air exchange with the outside, it is okay.

How much of an opening do you need? I keep a pretty tight lid on everything to prevent any suicides!! I would never be able to get the fish out from behind the stand, so I don't want any fish jumping out back there! I would guess I only have a couple of inch wide openings, except for where my filters fit in the tank

don't worry, people! my concern was that if Sandy has something like a submersible filter and the lid was completely closed on the tank, there would be no gas exchange at all. having small holes is fine, especially when they are above the filter. that will allow enough oxygen exchange to take place to keep the fish healthy.
other than that possibility i don't have any solutions to the problem. sorry.

Sounds strange!! Wish I could be more helpful, but maybe they were not the strongest fish to begin with. 2 months is really not very long in terms of fish. Is there any aggression in the tank at all??? If they are all males, sometimes they won't get along very well, but in a 90g, they should all have quite a bit of room...

There is 3 holes cut into the back piece...I have an Aquaclear filter so there's a big hole where that sits...and 2 holes for both my heaters.

There doesn't seems to be any fighting at all. I've been watching them and they all seem to leave eachother alone. At feeding time, they're all just fine with eachother. The 4 dwarf gourami's are all females (so the pet store said). I have just one left.

When I left the sliding glass opened again, I did find some water dripping, not much, but would make a mess if left for a while

just for the heck of it, what test results were you getting on the water?
