WHITBY, ONTARIO CANADA!
HEY GUYS

I am getting a 70g and wanna go wit real plants cause they just look so much better then fake plants, and i was wonderin i am gunna be getting the tank wit hood and stand first (only have so much money) and i was wondering if i could start growing the plants before i had the filter and heater?would they grow? it would be nice to have given the plants time to grow before i put my fish in...i will be gettin really easy plants like java moss and fern ex. and will have them in just gravel...so ya will they grow with out a filter and heater or not ?

THANKS

Some plants like cooler temps, and will thrive without a heater. I keep my appartment pretty warm, so my tank temp without a heater is still around 78. What kind of lights are you getting? I've heard good things about water sprite--that it grows fast. Many of the low light plants grow agonizingly slow, but if money is tight the lights might not be where you are putting your money.

I have kept a small 20G tank with feeder guppies, snails, and several plants out of my large tank. It has no heater, no filter, no nothing except for a hood. Alot of people start out with plants only and avoid cycling problems. I think Chuck Gadd has an article on this although I cant say either way if its good or not. http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_newtank.htm
