I remember seeing some where recently that earth worms can introduce internal parasites to your fish. Is this correct? I used to feed earthworms to my carpinte who died very suddenly a couple weeks ago at four years old (looked like he had a seizure) and I was wondering if he might of got parasites from the earth worms?

Im sure it could happen, but with earthworms most people worry about fertilizers and other chemicals the ground could have been treated with. Where did you get the worms from? I only get them from bait shops or places Im certain havnt seen chemicals in around 5 years.

Seizure would make me think poisoning (more specifically pesticide poisoning) as opposed to parasites, which are more likely to cause bloating or wasting before death. It's hard to know for sure where a ‘wild’ earthworm has been so it's also hard to know what it may have been exposed to. As has been suggested, bait shops are the best place to buy worms. Sorry for your loss, four years…that would kill me. :(

I always buy from the bait shop so I dont think it was poisioning. The rest of the fish who ate worms are also fine so if there was pestasides I would think it would have affected more of the fish. I guess Ill just chalk this one up to nature takeing its course as I can think of no other reasons something like this happened.
