easiest fish to breed?

id also say clowns.... a pair of True Percs will lay eggs often, but again fry are tough.... if you do attempt make sure that there is very little flow in the tank, and be sure to cover the filter inlet with a sponge.... aside from that keep water pristine and all the typical fish keeping advice.

I had my pair of percs lay eggs, and unfortunately none of the fry survived, i think i may have actually OVER WATER CHANGED. I did a partial WC everyday and they all died off over the period of a week. Many of the eggs were unfertilized and never hatched as well... I read an interesting article that focused mainly on keeping water params stable instead of worrying about top of the line quality so much.

Just my experience/advice 8)

If you are usually doing 25%+ a week, then I'd change it to 5% every day or every other day. It's a good indicator that your tank parameters are right when your fish are reproducing.

Also use a hex tank or use something to round the square corners. Clown fry can not get out of corners and will try to do so until they bash against the glass enough to kill them selfs.

thats were i believe a may have screwed up, i did about a 25 percent every day (maybe a little less) because it was not a large tank, and WC were easy enough. If i was to do it over again, id say about a 10 percent change every other day or once every three days.

Also be careful with adding any chemicals directly to the water column....

P.S. i hope if you do attempt it, you have better luck than me :wall:

Jay, I wouldn't do more than 5%. The fry are super sensitive to change. Commercial breeders constantly trickle new water in. Not a lot of us can afford to do that method, but it is by far the best. You could always do 10% by removing the old at once, but trickle the replacement water in over time.

The key I think is not doing a big change in water chemistry at once.

My vote for easiest would be damsels. Clowns are part of the damsels but I have had yellow tail blues and dominoes pair off and spawn. Also had yellow tangs spawn. Had a trio of them from juvenile and two paired up and made the #3 fish the dither fish for the pair.

The most difficult part is feeding the larvae. Joyce Wilkerson wrote a book on clownfish a few years back. The basics would apply to any damsel except that in some the male is dominant in some the female. Gender changing can be really interesting. You might want to gewt a copy of Joyce's book if you are seriously entertain the process.

try cardinals

cardinals are very easy. They also have large fry that can be reared on bbs. The hardest part is makeing a pair, but even that is not so hard.
