Easiest way to do water changes?

for me, the buckets are easier. but thats only because i only have to change 5 gallons of water on a 20 gallon tank and the bathroom is 5 steps away to get rid of the water and fill up the bucket. if i had a bigger tank, say 55 or 150 gallons, i wouldnt lug around buckets.

"aging" the tap water doesnt always remove chloramine.

Obviously YOu are more steady handed than ME,...b/c I have the innate ability to be able to spill water on the carpet from ANY ANGLE & no matter how miniscule the amount!!

I guess it's a gift that I was born with.:headbang2:

i use a python with a direct fill and Prime as well. works like a charm.. and i have the oh-so-'sensitive' rummynose tetras in that tank. they don't even shy away from the gravel vac.

I'm in the same boat as jm1212, except mine's a 29 gallon and the tank is only two steps away from the bathroom.

As for spilling, I do splash a little water sometimes. So I always put a towel or two down first.

i personaly use 2 garden hoses. one to suck water out one runnig in. can change much water grasshopper. and can sit back and watch.

I just use my gravel vac to suck the water down into a 5G bucket and then use my trusty recycled milk jug to add more water. My largest tank is 10G, so moving massive amounts of water is a non-issue for me, and then I use the water in the bucket to water my plants (save water, more motivation to do both activities more!). If you have large tanks or your water source is far away, I'd say go with a Python. Just make sure to regulate what the temperature of the water is coming out of the hose, and make sure to add Prime before the water goes into the tank.

To keep things from getting stirred up you could try pouring slower, lowering the thing you're pouring out of (depending on bucket and your strength), um..get a cup and scoop the water out?

IMO if you have a 30g and bigger tank, doing tank maintenance with a Python will make your life much easier...filling the tank is a snap. I usually add prime a couple minutes before the fill up is complete to ensure the conditioner is spread out through the tank. The fish will be fine if water is churned up a bit.

I have to say, I just got my python yesterday, and until then, I was using buckets. The python ROCKS! Much easier and waaaay faster.

I used to avoid water changes w/o the Python...now it's more of a chore, but it gets done.
