I would like to set up some CO2 on my 29g planted tank. right now it has an Amazon Sword (hoping to get a few more and having them grow out the top of the tank) some Java moss, some Java fern and a few crypto sp.(s).

I want to get better, faster growth and was thinking CO2 might be helpful. I currently run 2 24 watt 10K bulbs, and am planning to order 2 more bulbs (65K). I have some old liquid ferts (I think its called flourite complete or something like that) that I will be dosing.

my question is, how can I make CO2? will one 2litre bottle be enough, and how should I deistribute it into the water?

Search my posts on the subject - you will find my reasoning for 3:1 water : sugar mix, and that you will want 2 or 3 2L bottles to get up near 20PPM CO2 - I also cover drop checkers through other posts -diffusors too.

For diffusing purposes I'm having a great deal of success with what this guy suggested:

http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/...s/44053-tiny-super-efficient-co2-reactor.html

for $8 it does an amazing job of breaking up the bubbles and whatnot.

although if you're using a canister filter i guess this wouldn't be all that useful.

I must say, the DIY CO2 thing was a lot easier than I had first thought it would be...wish I had done it months ago

good luck!

are there other ways to distribute CO2 that I could make myself? would it be possible to stick the tubing into my HOB filter?

also, I just decided to set up a 20H planted too, and was wondering if it 4-5 bottles would be okay for these 2 tanks?

I've heard from several people that just putting the air hose into the HOB doesn't work (the CO2 just gets lost once it hits the impeller, or something like that)

I looked around and that little filter thing in that link is the most cost effecient thing that worked that I could find. You could just attach a limewood airstone to the end of the air line and put that under the hob outlet, but I don't know if that'll work either

that looks like the same thing I linked. elite mini, right Jag?

just take the filter out...I did, works fine. I don't think it serves any purpose for us

Yes :)
I would recommend a different tiny power head, it was the only cheap one in my area so I got the Elite Mini. The foam filter clogs to easy..

Here's a video after 1 day of yeast activation

When you use the Elite mini as per Niko's instructions from APC, the sponge doesnt actually filter the water, and will stay clog-free for awhile. Do you use the foam internally?
