Easy, unusual 125g aquascaping ideas?

for the ruins idea... maybe buy a cheap cement statue off craigslist. They're floating around the gardening section. smash it and use the distinguishable pieces in a rubble pile, like the face parts and hands

(beware of gardening chemicals)

A six foot tank would be big enough to lay out a body, perhaps a full size mannequin.

You could do all kinds of cool to creepy things including murder scene, magic escape act, nude, shark attack,

How about a submerged dock? You could build it decently cheap I would think. This way you could do some plants and have something different this fish should like too.

I like this idea. Nothing except Jesus on Houston Craigslist atm, but I'm keeping my eyes open. I love Iwagumi, but btdt and the teardown / rebuild / teardown cycle isn't the what I'm looking for right now. Plus, there are a lot of benefits to having glass over the tank. Statue would be an attractive alternative.

I also like the submerged dock concept, but I'm not sure what that would look like. Submerged, wooden pillars?

I was thinking a dock completely under water. Pillars and walk way planks, the whole caboose. Give fish a place to hide, and give you the option for plants below and on the dock. Heck one step further carve names and hearts on the side of the dock for realism. :D

DIY 3D back grounds with foam. You can get really creative with how it looks with nooks and crannies. You can hide equipment behind it, and with a few power heads control the flow of the water.

That looks like a fun project, MostlyHarmless, but I can't think what background I'd make that isn't fake stone or an architectural miniature.

Actually, Agro, fake is, in an odd way, more genuine than "real". Having a tank that only looks correct one day out of twenty and that is not sustainable without somewhat frequently removing the fish and rebuilding is, in a sense, more unnatural and fake than a genuine, if artificially constructed, HOME for my fish.

I know there are natural, sustainable tanks, but they're not the ones you're likely to see in the magazines. Plus, there are no glass boxes in nature.

How about doing a garage theme. It cant be a 1:1 ratio but it would be very unique. You could buy model cars, build your own lifts, tools , tool boxes , tire racks with tires, and anything else you think should be in your garage theme. Water proof it all and setup it up to the way ypu like it. Ive been thinking about doing for sone time now. Or maybe even a mini zoo with animal exhibits. Use your imagination and im sure you will come up with something awesome. What ever you choose just make sure to keep us all posted on what you plan do to and dont forget to attach a few pictures!

That 1:1 ratio is really the problem. Here are some ideas (including ones stated already) with some wee additions by me haha:

a) Pollution Tank - Bottles, cans, tires, boots... you can plant it and give it special lighting too.
b) Dock Tank - A few large wood-cut pillars in a sandy base with bright lights and vine plants with some floaters.
c) Body Tank - A body or skeleton, partially buried in sand, with plants and such growing out of it. You can also go for some humor by having, say, a fake axe in it or similar.
d) Small Statue Ruin Tank - A broken up stature under bright lighting with plants growing around it.
e) Pirates Chest Tank - Put a large wooden chest in there if you can make it fish safe. Would be partially open with fake gold coins and treasure inside it, plants and moss on it, the like.
