what's a dwarf platy? I looked it up on the internet but didn't really see anything. regular platies don't get that big, anyway, do they?
dwarf platies don't exist. they're just young regular ones. it's a LFS gimmick.

Fishcatch is saying that "drawf platys" are merely small regular platys that are labeled as "drawf platys" by the fish/pet store and are not a drawf variety at all. Personaolly Idon't know wether or not them being drawfs is true or not , but I honestly don't care and will consider them regualr platys when giving stocking acvice unless someone can give me proof that there's an actual drawf platy (a latin name, and a link would be good for starters).

BTW, I also doubt small fish like this will get to adult size in a year.

Back to the original topic of this post.............................

As long as your fish are eating, I wouldn't worry about it. However, some fish can be intimidated by the behavior of their tankmates. When I first started my tank, I had 6 zebra danios in there (the orginal 6 from my fishy cycle). They were very active (I don't think they even stopped moving at night) and seemed to prefer the upper level of the tank (during the day...at night I could see them zipping along the bottom). Their constant darting and aggressive feeding style (like a reef shark feeding frenzy) so intimidated the other fish that I introduced (angels and golden honey gouramis) that they almost never came up above 6 or 8 inches from the gravel. They were also always watching the danios to keep tabs on where they were so the wouldn't run into them. Not that the danios were seriously harassing any of them. They are just frantic fish and can really spook other tank mates. So, I returned them to the store and everybody started moving further up the tank. I now have fish swimming at all different levels and feeding at all different levels. So, after that long story, your danios could be influencing your other fish's behavior. Just something to consider. Watch your fish and see how they act around the danios. That's the only way you'll know if they're spooked by them.
