Not true, many hot and arid areas lack edible vegetation, too...and just because something is edible dies not mean that it is nutritious enough to sustain life.

Perhaps, but palm fronds are not particularly digestible nor nutritious.

Rats and mice are pretty good...and most places...and who said you were not stranded with only a case of beef jerky? Of course, there are bugs everywhere....would you count those as 'meat'?

not true.... even the sahara contains many edible plants, as well as things, (depending or region, of course) things like prickly pear cactus, date palms, and other things, plus (as long as you remove the thorns) many cacti are filling meals perfectly capable of sustaining like, as well as succulents like aloes in africa. now the deserts of central asia.... those really are for the most part plantless wastes. of course, they are almost equally as animaless. of course, it'd all depend on where I was stranded. if it was in the nothern sahara or the sonora of arizona, I could probavly track down some plants to eat, but if I was in the rub' al kahli or the talikman desert, then god help me.

I think you'd have me there if I was stranded with a case of beef jerky... true, rats and mice are qutie edible, but the bones seem a bit too numerous to make a good meal. and bugs do count as meat, i guess. chances are they'd be the only terrestial meat you'd see on a desert island, since rats and mice can only come through humans most of the time, and if humans have not been there, chances are low that their'd be any rats or mice.

Well, I sell cattle with my uncle and he stopped putting hormones in a long time ago. People don't want them and guys that were selling cattle with hormones got quite a bit less then people that excluded the hormones. Anymore most of the guys (around where I live) don't put hormones in their cattle. It is actually kind of nice because that is less money we have to put in to them. And really, if you know what type of feed and the amount per day you need to give to get your cattle to the right weight. You don't need hormones anyway.

Actually, there are dozens of rat species worldwide that exist in places virtually untouched by man....do not limit your rat-thoughts to only Rattus species.

notice he said compared to places like the talikman desert and the rub' al kahli. those places are the driest, harshest places on earth, and most of the sahara, especially the souther and northern parts, is actually fairly tame by desert standards. the sahara is actually brimming with life compared to places like the talikman. it is so harsh there that not even the hardiest of invertebrates can live there.
