Eating a fish alive

The way I see it is, humans come first.. once they're fed, then we can help the animals. We have a tendency to criticise what we're not used to. I don't think that's right.

The way I see it a compassionate society is compassionate to all sentient beings. Anything else is just window dressing and hypocracy.

Many things vary between cultures, the ability of a sentient being to feel pain is not one of them.

please give an example of a technique used in a slaughterhouse that is worse than being burned, and having burnt flesh torn from the burn.

I come from a rural area, and have to disagree with the poster that said animals are rendered unconsious before killing. Its not that comassionate, however, they do tend to kill in the fasted method possible, if for no other reason than an animal in pain when it dies produces tougher meat.

Cows are basically shot in the head. (not with a bullet, imagine a gun that, instead of a bullet being shot out, a metal rod shoots out, and retracts back in, like a resusable bullet) Sounds a little grusome, but once the rod goes into the brain, the cow falls dead instantly.

It's a good thing fish can't feel pain due to lack of a nerve for it, but this is nonetheless cruel. As human being we can comprehend what pain is and to eat a fish like this shows some people are sick in the head.... There is no benefit to eat it in such a manner and it just show how sadistic humanity can get.

I don't care what another countries traditions are, that's completely sick and tortuing animals shouldn't be part of a countries' traditions/culture. If they are then that's one messed up country.

Many cultures can't grasp how anyone can possibly eat some of the garbage some of us eat all the time... Fried, greasy, oily, fatty foods... Deep fried chocolate bars, burgers with enough bacon on it to feed a family. . .

But deep fried chocolate bars probably aren't fried alive...

I completely agree w/ Sawyer.

If you poke a fish, it jumps/moves. It can feel, and if it can feel, it can feel pain. All this "fish can't feel pain" crap is just that...crap.

Life is designed around things feling pain, if you don't feel pain, you have no sense of danger, you don't know that this water is too hot/cold for you, or to swim away after the bigger fish gets you half in its mouth. Have you ever seen a pirahanna take a bite out of a feeder? Guess what, the feeder darts away, because it HURTS.

meh, what bugs me is how people are quick to target other cultures on what they're used to simply because it doesn't fit in with our own moral standards.

OK, while this video takes things to an extreme, I think it's unfair when people say how horrible and disgusting it is to eat half the things other cultures eat, including certain raw foods, cats, dogs, bugs, etc.

I agree with you. It is unfair. Its just like the wars between religions and beliefs. There are so many different views on things around the world. I've traveled a lot to third world countries and witnessed people eat things fresh off the beach while its alive. I am very open to others culture even if its not something i would do myslef.

I would not be able to perform one of those tasks myself and probably wouldn't like to live there. But experiencing new things is always good. Im also not saying that The US should allow those things.
