Eclipse system 6 for FOWLR

I want to get this tank for my desk at the office and make it into a salt water FOWLR tank. i have alot of experiance with FW tanks so i figured i dont have hte room at home for another tank, so ill get a small tank at the office. I dont want to go crazy here, and im only looking to add 2 clown fish and thats it. of course there will be live rock in there too. ive read that i should remove the bio wheel, and the other media from the eclipse filtration??? what is everyones opinion??? Unrelated to your question, but I wouldn't setup a small SW tank if you won't be there daily. Small tanks are less stable--evaporation in small tanks causes salinity spikes that can be lethal. This can be worked around--you can setup an auto-topoff system, but it will still require more monitoring than a FW setup the same size. I would not put any fish in a 6 gallon tank--maybe one clown if you go up to a 10 gallon. Clowns are very aggressive, and in a small tank they could fight a lot. In a 6, I would stick with a single, hardy goby, and some inverts.

Otherwise--removing the bio-wheel is a good thing--they increase both evaporation and salt creep. Removing the media is optional--the media remains submerged in these systems, so it can be accessed by various cleaner organisms, and isn't quite the nitrate producer that a wet dry is, but it will require more maintenance on your part than running with no media.

i was also considering one of those Nano Cube things, they are a little on the big size for a desk though, would that be better???
