You are going to hate this answer but I think they are both fairly equal, with flourite being somewhat easier to find locally, at least for me. And color is a very subjective thing although I personnaly like the look of the darker substrate in a planted tank. It also seems to be easier to photograph.

i do like flourite sand though ADA is still my fav substrate
 
I like Eco-Complete, nothing like super poppin' contrast!
 
I've used various types of flourite, and a few types of carib sea's substrates, including eco complete. I have to say out of the two I like eco complete better. You don't have to wash eco at all. Just dump it in the tank. Flourite you can wash for 10 hours and still end up with a brown water tank. Eco complete claims to have "live sand" which I honestly didn't care about. nor did I notice any difference at all in my tank. The plants came from a 50 gallon with flourite, into the 120 tall with eco complete.

I currently have flourite in my 135, and my 20 long. Has more of a natural look and once it is settled in you will not have a problem with cloudiness ever. I have eco complete in my 120 tall, no cloudiness problems at all from the get go.

If I had to pick one again for a new tank, I would easily go with eco complete if it was available, but both are good substrates in my opinion.
