Eco complete users please help

Well my reasoning was:

Cheap gravel at LFS 5lbs for 3.99 = 80c per pound
Eco $1.50 per pound

Trying to figure out if 1 bag is enough for a 15G - priceless ! ;)

No seriously - if i have to buy 2 bags but only need half of the second then that makes quite a bit of difference. Seeing that i am trying to do this on a budget and lighting, ferts and plants arent free... well every $ counts.

Here is a link for you and others to use for substrate.

http://www.plantedtank.net/substratecalculator.html

according to it 1 bag would give you a tad bit over 1 inch of substrate. Planted tanks should have 3 inches IMO. Anything less and plants tend to float up. You could go less since you have no fish to disturb the plants and Eco might hold plants better than gravel. Another option would be to put some pebble rock at the plant base to hold it in place. In these instances you could probably get away with 2 inches.

Thanks - i used that page when i first started the hobby - but back then had no clue was eco even was. lol

According to the calculator 2 bags (40lbs) would give me a 2.5 inch layer - which sounds like it should work. So i guess 2 bags it is....

Thank you.
