:1zhelp:Hi folks,
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might get Eco-complete substrate from in Scotland. I know most of you guys are in America and can get it there quite cheaply but here in Scotland the cheapest that I could find is £26. for a 20lb bag, that`s about $52.
I will need about 5 bags. Can anyone suggest possibilities???
Cheers!!!!

wow that is expensive! personally i think if your looking for a cheaper alternative look into pool filter sand and if you really want black sand look into fluorite black sand but again it still is probably really expensive.

I went with a mix of Eco-Complete and tiny natural gravel. It gives it a nice look which I've been complimented on many times, lessens the cost, and doesn't take away the benefits of using Eco-Complete. Any ratio like 50/50, 60/40, or 70/30 works, but you could probably go 40/60 as well.

Not sure about Scotland, but this is a UK link:
http://www.oil-dri.co.uk/

Oil-dri is the maker of Turface, and similar fired clay products. There's not much difference between the brand names except color (and price). In the US, you can pick up a 25 lb bag sold under the Oil-dri name at Walmart for under $4.
Here's a link to the products on the US site:
http://www.oildri.net/Gran_Premium.html

Maybe you can find the same product somewhere over there

I am setting up a 75 gallon planted aquarium using this.

In fact, if you go to the UK site, select floor granules, then look at this ... I think it's the same thing I'm using, from Georgia:
OIL-DRI ALL PURPOSE ® (AMERICAN)
Mined and processed in Georgia, USA, this clay is universally accepted as a product leader within the absorbent industry, it is suitable for any surface and any non-aggressive liquid. Ideal for keeping walk-ways, pavements, approach ramps and machinery bases safe and dry. Meets MOD specification.

Not sure if OP has any Petco around but they should have Eco-Complete. Try asking for it. Around here, a 20lb Eco at petco sell for 19.99, so however much that is in Pond or Euro.
