I recently ran into a new product introduced in the market place called
Eco Magic. It is supposedly the The very first under water cultivation system in the world that has its own automatic self purging and recycling system, that does not require the removal of the aquarium water (“zero water exchange”) there-by reducing maintenance and creating a healthy and natural ecology.

I checked out the website and seems legit!

www.eco-magic.net

Just and FYI

Can you explain why it 'seems legit'? It sounds like snake oil to me. I wouldn't want to live in a house where the air is 100% recycled, and I certainly don't think it's good for fish to live in a system where none of the water is changed and the filter is never cleaned!
The website doesn't explain how it works, just gives a brief overview, and that's suspect in my eyes - if there's genuine science behind this, I'd be interested in reading about it, but all I saw was a lot of words without much actual meaning.

If you can think of any questions to ask them, then please tell me? I am new to this and was interested in purchasing the Eco Magic. What is that make you suspect?

Well in my heavy planted tank I never get high nitrates. I used to never change the water because of this and after months the nitrates barely registered.

Still though I have learned over time that water should be changed because things get in the fish tank. Whether it be stuff from the air, food, fertilizer, or microbugs and bacteria, other things enter in. Your tank is small unlike a lake or ocean and thus small amounts of things can cause big problems for fish.

Nitrates aren't your only concern with the water. So even if it gets rid of nitrates you should still change your water no matter what the salesman tells you.

Ok whats the point of that system? All you need is a filter to clean the water!
Why are there chemicals used in the system?

It tanks up a lot of space for something that isent really needed, NOTHING CAN REPLACE A WATER CHANGE. It sounds like you will use a air pump on the systam. Chances are that in a normal home aquarium there is already enough air in the water.

Yup, sound like another snake-oil product to me.

From the website:

"With the use of Eco Magic, ecological cultivation contributes to the stability of the aquarium by maintaining the greatest biodiversity of microorganisms."

It doesn't mention what microorganisms are supposedly maintained, or what "ecological cultivation" is supposed to mean. I'd bet live plants and water changes do a much better job than this device can.

It looks like a $100 sponge filter that would be very hard to remove for cleaning. The "how it works" section is nothing but a smoke screen of generalities.

After looking at the diagram more closely, is this not just basically a RFUG filter? I also just noticed this:

*Note: Eco-Magic bological filter requires the addition of a suitable supplemental power filter.

Why not just buy a suitable power filter and forget about the Eco-Magic?
