Educate me!

In my opinion, it does make a difference. Others may disagree, however.

I am not saying you cannot have any cories. I would joyously suggest the very heat-tolerant C. sterbai.

Also, I suggest to get a thermometer.

Sterbai are quite big, I just saw some surprisingly large ones today. I say go with true dwarves, pygmy, habrosus or hastatus. Better lots of small corys than a very few larger ones.

Planetcatfish is difficult if you don't already know genus (& maybe some other stuff too, wonderful site though)

Corys vary in their temp prefs- some, like barbatus, need it cooler (low 70s) while others like sterbai do fine in mid 80 discus tanks.

I used to keep a pair of 2.5 gal planted tanks side by side each with 3 pandas and a male splendens.

I didn't realize that pandas liked cooler temps. I have 3 in a tank that I keep right at 80 (there's also a Julli and a Schwartzi in there). They all swim around, play together, eat well and seem happy.

Pygmy cories are adorable. I love mine. I'd say go for those. You might even be able to get them to breed.
