Eeeeuuuuwwwwwwwww.....gross

We should make some lists of good locations and bad locations to buy fish. I don't know how to do this but I think it would be a great idea. I can't find a decent store anywhere, so I bought from Liveaquaria. Their fish are healthy but they sent me the wrong fish!

That's a great idea....BUT......we would have to list them by:

State, region, postcode.....COUNTRY!!.. Could get a little confusing!!!
Sadly, I ONLY know of 1 other from Glasgow & it was a guest!!
How great would it be, with every member here, being able to meet up, and not just chat online!!!

Oh we'll.........we can dream.......lol!!!

Yea, I guess it would be a bit overwhelming. Maybe, if everybody listed their local stores and rated them, it could be accomplished. I guess I'm just desperate to find a good store. There aren't any around me.

We have a fish store from hell here, and go figure it is a chain store. The last time I went there, there were 2 fantail goldfish so covered in ich, I really couldn't beleive it, and there was also a chocolate ornanda, just covered in this white "fuzz", laying at the bottom of his tank, gasping for air. I pointed the ornanda out to one of the staff, and she was like "oh, he's just sleeping, did you want to buy him?" and then she also asked if I wanted to buy the ones with ick when I pointed at them. I could not beleive she told me that. Then I asked her if the store uses a central sump, and she couldn't answer that. and then I explained it to her about the sump, and she told me that those two tanks were being treated. I then told her that she shouldn't be selling fish out of treating tanks... and she was just like "yeah whatever..." and she walked away. needless to say, I tried calling the manager, but they have yet to return my call.

What store is it jenny? Since we live in the same area, I'd like to know which store to avoid. :D I checked out Big Al's not long ago and was amazed at the selection they had for fish. And I'm happy with fish quality at the store (not a chain) in Sherwood Park.

This store was Paradise Pets, not in Edmonton, but in St.Albert. The Walmart in St. Albert has a pretty clean fish section, but there is hardly any variety. I am trying to find a real good fish store with a nice selection here, but I have not succeded yet :(

I guess I'm pretty lucky since I have 5 LFS's in a 5-mile radius (2 are local, not big chain stores). One of them is only two blocks away from where I live and usually have nice healthy fish and good amount of supplies as well. :)

lucky bum!

Not knowing where you live exactly, (as you know i'm in the U.K, and have a Quest to find Cichlid i want)!!

I have read from quite a few on this site who can order online..have you tried this?

As i said, different country and no one here in the U.K, (apart from Auction's on eBay) seem's to provide this, but, have you tried @ your end?

If you can't find what you want at your LFS, then maybe one's on this site could point you in the right direction of an online store in your region......or one which has a good rep, that could reach you?

Just a thought!!
You never know!

Our PetsMart is okay, but it depends on whos there at the time. One girl really really knows her stuff (actually recongizes me whenever I come in), all the rest don't know anything. I was helped by an older lady the other day, and she tried to litterally pull my new Ottos off of the bag after she dumped all the water out without getting a single otto out. I just cringed and prayed she didn't squeeze too hard. That's the only time I've ever bought fish from there (usually I just buy parts and plants), and I think it will be the last unless the good girl is there.

I haven't tried buying online but would really like to find a place that carried a lot of *healthy* plants and a good variety of them and would deliver here (texas isn't that bad but our heat will kill anything that is left in a truck for very long, plant or otherwise)
