3rd day

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

okay so I am up to 115 tsp of salt with the temp of 85-85 and today the weirdest thing happened tonight when I came home everyone was fine...then I fed them and......the 1 molly and 3 platys drop DEAD  Right into the tree's dead. So my question is what is going on is it possible that the ick accelerated due to heat, got to their gills and that was it for them? The cory cats seem to be fine( I Think) Can the salt kill fish or make them die like that?It been three days since the bath has started and I wonder if i should do a water change yet? Any info would be great I am just a bit confused and worried about all the dying going on in there. Thanks again.

Have you increased the surface agitation? At higher temps, the water holds less dissolved oxygen, and without some additional splash, can cause a problem. Also, are you doing water changes at all? I prefer to do a daily water change when treating for ich--even though it means replacing the salt-for 2 reasons. 1, cleaning the gravel daily will help remove the ich cysts that have dropped off before they can hatch. 2, more clean water is never ever a bad thing.

Of course, it could just be that the ich taxed the fish too much. How long had they been infected?

I would expect the cories and the snails to be most susceptible to the salt, mollies the least, many can survive marine conditions. Sudden death could be a combination of everything, hard to say for sure. I have used long term salt baths on goldfish parasites with good results, but never on community fish myself. I prefer a dose of Quickcure for quick results and without the trouble of building and reducing salt concentration.

Agreed with OG, Also just an FYI the platy's and Mollies would have been more tolerant of higher levels of salt than any other fish you have so it really almost couldn't have been the salt. Sorry you are having so much trouble with this battle.

the surface agitation is at full splash, I am going to do the water change today. I am not to sure how bad the ick is but you might be right about it being really bad on those who have died(RIP). I am sure that a few more are on there way out too. The cory's are the only one's that don't seem listless they are crazier then ever just all my poor platys and the one molly...at this rate the corys are going to have areally big tank to live in. Its just really wierd that I fed them and the simtanously 3 deaths. Thanks for the support thou I am going to continue the battle.... Oh 1 more thing can amano shrimp get ick? Thanks all.
