Hi, I was just wondering if I could get any info on freshwater eels. I want to set up a 55 gallon african cichlid tank with a pictus or syndodontis cat and was wondering how long do fw eals get and are there any that would be suitable for a 55 gallon tank, and would it be compatible with African Cichlids.

You could get a peacock eel or a tire track eel. Fire eels are cool but they would grow to large for your tank. Also get a gravel that they can get under, they like to do that.

My peacock eel got big and now eats ghost shrimp. Really fun to watch.

Stay away from american eels, they're tank busters and don't get along with much of anything.

I hate things like that. as thin as worms, I dislike them and khulis. I consider them the worms of the aquarium

I recommend a birchir,I own 2 Senegals and they are by far my favorite in the tank. They don't get to big, about 12 inches long.Mine are still babies but its such great fun to watch them stalk their prey,so far just ghost shrimp.
