Effect of High Nitrates

update

I made her clean the tank. We siphoned out about a gallon of water from the bottom. You should have seen all the muck coming out of there. The bucket was full of black glop. Then she took some paper towels and wiped all the crapola from the glass. I almost puked in my mouth.

Anyway, it's much better now, but of course all this crap is floating all over the place. Tomorrow I'll make her clean it again, and also on Friday, at which time she'll change the filter.

It really pays to keep up with tank cleaning.
Word to the wise.

I am glad that you made her clean up the mess in her tank. I hope she keeps up with it. You said she was having a heart attack at the suggestion of getting rid of the tank,so maybe somewhere she does care about it. It is possible that she just did not know where to start and she just needed a little nudge which you provided for her. Keep nudging her and that tank will be back in shape in no time.

Yeah, she just needed help. She didn't really know how to use the siphon, she didn't know how much water conditioner to add, she was afraid of wiping the crap off the glass, blah blah blah. But it's in much better shape today than it was yesterday, and hopefully later on I'll get her to do another change.

I need to get her to realize how much easier it is to take care of when you just keep up with it.
