effectiveness of "Melafix"

I think Melafix is like WD-40 to the aquarium world, nearly every household has it. I have never had to use it on my saltwater fish yet, but it has saved one of my fav freshwater fish. I had a huge brasiliensis with a very bad red bacterial sore which looked almost incurable. Melafix managed to clear it in about 1 week.

I have heard mixed responses regarding effectiveness on fin rot, but when it comes to wounds which have become infected with bacteria I have heard others post excellent results.

That's...quite a claim there Elliot. Could you perhaps give some more information on your tank setup, diet, and fish?

voodoochild you wanted more info well here it is i brought a purple tang from my LFS which had the worst case of lateral line disease i have ever seen in a fish the whole fish was covered in erosion from head to tail i treated my 55 gallon reef tank with it for a month and my Inverts had no ill effects

as for diet just the normal stuff seaweed and brineshrimp
the tang is now very well and the wound has healed without a scar!

Well just to add to the list of peeps who have used melafix...I too have used it with positive effects. Only draw back is I didn't realize that I needed ot turn off my P-Skimmer. Got a great effect of suds ozzing out of the collection cup. Kinda funny when it happened. :)

I find the Melafix interesting...Anyone heard of Melaluka? It is a product baised marketing company that is a bit like Amway (a Pyramid scam), anyways "Melaluka" is the base ingredant in MelaFix. The stuff stinks so bad because of the "Melaluka" that is in it. Now imagin brushing your teeth and using shampoo and soap with a product that smells just like Melafix. OH BABY YEAH! It will drive everyone wild about your smell!

Good luck to everyone who uses Melafix. I have had success just can't stand the smell.
