Egeria Densa Temp Range?

"Elodea" and "Anacharis" are used to mean both Egeria densa and Elodea canadensis; a few other species are also sold under these names. Make sure you're getting the Egeria, as it is more tropical in distribution and presumably has better heat tolerance.

Egeria Densa and Egeria Canadensis are two different species of Egeria.
canadensis is the norhtern hemisphere version of densa(brazillian watwer weed) Egeria Densa and Elodea Densa are the same plant(Anacharis)..with Egeria the newer nomenclature Elodea is the older name

There is no Egeria canadensis; the North American waterweeds (including E. canadensis)are retained in Elodea, while Egeria was created to contain the South American waterweeds. Sorry for the slight derail!

Nick- what temp do you plan to keep your tank at? There may be more appropriate plants.

you are correct
egeria refers to the warm water species.

however, they are mis labeling the egeria Densa in the stores..I have seen it myself.
you cannot rely on the nomenclature to correctly identify the plant.

canadensis has a different whorl set up 3 leaves per whorl. and will grow in warm water
brazillian water weed is illegal in washington and has cause issues in some lakes and slow streams.. I have seen egeria sold in the stores but on further check found it is not Densa

by the way I have grown both as high as 84

the tank temp is 28C

its a SA setup so I'm not too bothered as long as the plant meets the following for me:

- has to be South American to stick with my theme
- its a 1.8wpg, pressurised co2, EI dosing setup
- not swords as i already have them
- resonable to good growth rate

all i could come up with was densa
