Hi all,
I just got my new Satellite light fixture, and discovered that the single LED moonlight it comes with lies directly over the thick centre brace of my tank! It's completely blocked out; I unplugged it because not even a bit of the light comes through.
The problem is, though I bought the light because it's a good PC fixture and not for the moonlight, I've become attached to the idea of having one! There is next to no space left above the tank (two PC fixtures take up almost all the room), and I don't have a hood to attach a strip of LEDs to, so I'm thinking of getting an egglite or Coralife 3/4W LED moonlight. Any recommendations or ideas?

Blinky I have the 3/4W Coralife on a 55g fresh. Don't expect one 3/4 watt to illuminate the entire tank of a 55g. You didn't mention the size of your tank but since it has a center brace I would think it is at least 36" wide. I attatched the moonlight to my Coralife pc with the provided clip. The illumination resembles an inverted ice cream cone. If I wanted to illuminate the entire bottom of the tank I would probably need a total of 4 3/4w moonlight, 2 on each side of my center brace. Even then I believe the lighting would look like 4 blue ice cream cones turned upside down. I have seen a lot of different moonlight on Ebay and some online aquarium vendors. It seems the new approach is to provide a strip with multiple blue LED's. I saw one, but don't remember where, that uses 10 LED's on a 48" strip.

My best advice, shop around.

Thanks for the info :)
Sorry, I forgot to put the size of the tank - it's a 65g, 36" wide. I did move the fixture over and check the moonlight out, but when the fixture is in the proper position the centre brace blocks it out completely. It's not crucial, but I really do like the idea. I've been looking around, it's confusing, there are so many options! Hopefully I'll find something at the LFS next time I go :)
