egyptian mouthbrooders

That's a beautiful fish. Would make a great centerpiece in a smaller tank IMO.

The article mentions keeping them for a short time with mbuna cichlids but the water requirements are different so I would hesitate to do that over a long period.

Are you planning on picking up a couple? If you do, post pics!

i would like to get a few of them IF i can find them. idk where i could find something like them. its a beautiful species that seems really protective because they will take their babies back into their mouths after they spit. im thinking of putting them into a 30g cuz thats all ive got to work with right now.

Go back and re-read the article. It states "The water they inhabit in the wild is all over the board, but most species are found in soft water." meaning it is too broad to say that they have a specific need.

All I was saying is that I would be hesitant, not that it would not work. In my opinion, the author of the article took both sides of that argument and I was merely stating that I would err on the side of caution.

maybe this would be better than having some type of victorian harem, since these are a polygamous species and it would make for an interesting and beautiful species tank.

Austin, if you don't get these, I will personally fly down to Texas and smack you. I wish I had an extra tank, but I'll have to wait until after college (I'm only a junior in high school).

ive got 2 30gallons that i need to empty before i can buy them. i would love to get some, but the only issue with buying some is that im a senior in high school and next year im most likely going to have to sell nearly all of my fish because i probly wont be able to take them with me to college. so im trying to avoid spending too much on fish, especially if they arnt going to color or mature for awhile. if i can find some grown ones for a decent price im deffinatly going to buy some, but as far as i know i have never seen this available anywhere.

does anyone know of a site where i can buy some of these?

Could your parents possibly take care of some of them while you are gone? I know my mom has already said that they can handle mine when I leave. Another option is to try to find a few friends to give your tanks to while you're gone.
