Thinking about upgrading to the Eheim 2128 with Thermofilter. I was wondering if the heater module is replaceable and if it has it's own power cord that could be disconnected. My experience with heaters is that the thermostats go out and stick after a couple of years. Don't want to have to replace the whole canister if the heater goes haywire. Sure this is not the case but wanted to check with people that have experience with this filter. Also, how long have those of you that have the 2128 been using it trouble free?

The filter and the heater do have two separate cords. So, if the heater malfunctions, all you have to do is unplug the heater cord, add a normal heater, and pretend like the heating function of the filter does not exist.

I've only had mine for about 7 months. So, due to it being an Eheim, I'll have to wait another 30 years abouts(average) before something that serious goes wrong.

I'll get to you when that happens. :p:

Thanks for letting me know about the power cords. That helps. As far as it being an Eheim, unless they aren't using thermostats to turn the heater on and off I would still be concerned about it sticking in a couple of years and cooking your tank. When you come in to see your tank at 90 degrees, you'll never trust another heater past the 2 year mark....Eheim or not. However those claims are warranted about the canister itself.
