Eheim 2215 setup

the brown ceramic balls go in first, then the eheim mech (the hollow cylinders), then the blue sponge followed by the white floss. The black piece is the carbon which should be thrown away after a month or so.

well, with my eheim, i use Ehiem substrate pro (the brown ceramic balls) and Eheim mech (looks like hollow cylinders) and a sponge+filter floss.
There's no one way to fill it up, but the general method is to have the bigger pieces at the bottom to catch all the larger pieces of gunk, while the finer media like the sponge and floss up top to catch the finer stuff.

There are two grid disks/plastic plates for spacing. They go feet down on the bottom and feet up on the top. First and last pieces installed.
Coarse mechanical media like the ceramic cylinders or bio balls in the bottom.
Coarse filter foam followed by the finer mechanical, substrate pro or what ever you buy.
Fine filter floss followed by the grid that spaces the floss off the pump head.
This is not written in stone as its again the standard load Eheim recommends.

Thanks for the advice guys,I get the overall picture. Coarse media on the bottom etc, you've been a big help.
Please don't put the charcoal in, it is almost useless in an eheim, plus if you are like me you will forget about it when you dose meds.

2215 was an excellent choice of filter. I am surprised that no media came with the filter, though. Normally, Eheims are sold with all the filter media, hoses, taps, everything you need AND instructions. Check what you paid against other suppliers and what is included for the price. I am thinking the store may have pulled a fast one on you, as the media is quite expensive.
